Oh the drama at our house over the last week.
Aaron was out of town on the weekend. He had an ache in his side. He took all the gas ease medicines available at the hotel. Nothing helped. The were flying home on Monday so he decided that he would see the doctor when he got home. By the time he got home he was in terrible pain. He drove himself to the Urgent Care and they got him right in. The doc said that he was 98% sure that is was kidney stones and was ready to send him on his way. Aaron asked if he could rule out appendicitis and the doc said he could rule it out with a blood test, but didn't think it was necessary. This is a clear case of kidney stones. Aaron asked for the test anyway. It came back with an elevated white count. Hmmmm. Might be appendicitis. The doc sent us to the hospital to get a CT scan to see where in his system, and how big, the kidney stone actually is.
The tech who took Aaron to CT told him that he should plan on staying over night..... No kidney stone in sight but his appendix looks terrible!! Now they take us to ER to get Aaron some pain medicine and check him in. Which we had to do again on the surgery floor anyway, so I am not sure why they added that extra step. Then he is wheeled up to his room and checked in again. His pain is a 10 out of 10 and the nurse won't look for his narcotic orders because she is took focused on getting the computer to work! They finally got him checked in and partially comfortable. The surgeon is in surgery so we have to wait for him. Mom brought the kids up to see their daddy. Both kids were very frightened to see their father hurting so much, but Aaron wanted to see them. After all he had been away for several days already and was headed in to surgery.
Anyway, the kids stayed with Nana that night. Aaron had his appendix removed. It had ruptured while we were waiting for the surgeon, but it was pretty localized and they were able to contain it before it got worse. He stayed an extra night in the hospital because of that though. He has only 3 small scars. The surgery was laproscopic so there is a very small incision below his belly button and one on his left side, and they took his appendix out through his belly button. Already you can hardly see the two smallest incisions. Amazing.
He is already back to work and is in Dallas for the week this week. I think he is probably glad to be back to work. He was getting bored sitting around the house, unable to drive, and only slightly mobile.
Xander was very sad during this ordeal. He told Nana that his dad is in the hospital and is going to die. Mom had to reassure him that he was coming home. I think it broke her heart to see him believe that his daddy was dying. He must have thought that because our beloved Mineno Kitty went to the animal hospital in March, and he didn't get to come home. It is still fresh in his mind. Mom is sure he was wondering who I was going to replace his daddy with!
I think I'd get a new cat first.....
