Facebook!

I LOVE Facebook. I recently found my friend from Norway and she and I can chat there. And today I had a message from my sister in Australia! I lost track of that family several years after I came home from staying with them my Junior year in high school. Through Facebook, Shari was able to find me!! I am about to jump out of my skin!! I think about that family all the time and have tried to reconnect with them over the years. I can't wait to hear from them all again.

What a great day!!

Fundraising update.

OK. If you are interested the website is http://www.4jaxco.com/. The student code for Nathan is 817313. Looks like you just have to enter that when you make your order. Again, please do not feel obligated to buy anything. But if there was something you couldn't live without, make sure he gets the credit.

Thanks!

Challenge!!

OK. I am feeling motivated these days. A few weeks ago I signed up for the ivillage Community Walking Challenge. Then I promptly forgot about it. In my inbox this morning is a reminder that it starts on Monday! I am actually feeling a bit excited about it. I absolutly know I have to do something about my weight. I really miss my Weight Watchers group in Winnemucca. I tried it up here and it just isn't the same, and it is hard for me to stick to the plan. So I am going it alone. But the Challenge sounded like it was just for me. They email a daily walking routine and I just have to do it. Walk. I can do that!

So now it's out there! I will keep you all informed... If anyone wants to join me you can sign up at http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/walkforweightloss.open.html.

Have a great day!

Fundraising Time of Year

OK. I hate this part of grade school (does it end after grade school?). Fundraising time. This year the kids are raising money for new, safe, risers in the music room, and replacement playground equipment. As part of the PTO, I think it is necessary for my kids to participate in this funraiser (that is a PTO sponsored deal).

My kids are only allowed to hit up people they know. This world isn't safe enough for kids to go door to door. But Nathan has a goal. He gets prizes for selling a certain amount of items. He has a goal to sell 10 things. So far he has sold 2 (both to his Nana, who bought 2 small things instead of the one thing that she wanted so that he would be one sale closer to his goal. Isn't that sweet. Nana's). We haven't bothered our out of town relatives too much in the past. I don't want to have to ship the items once they arrive for one reason. But this year the fundraising company has an online site, www.4jaxco.com. They will ship the items right to you and Nathan still gets credit for it. And to top it off, this year they are selling some pretty neat things. I was impressed and will be able to find something for myself as well.

They didn't include very good instructions on how to credit the kids on this. So I will update this post as soon as I hear back from them.

Please do NOT feel obligated to buy anything from him. But if you found something that you liked please make sure he gets the credit! Thanks!

New Video Game

Everything has stopped at our house now. The long awaited Force Unleashed arrived yesterday! Aaron has had this game pre-ordered for a long time. He has been haunting the web-sites talking about it's development and once in a while pauses on the video game channel if it happens to show a piece about it. OK. Maybe he hasn't been that obsessed, but he has been excited about it. UPS (the real Santa Claus) showed up with it yesterday, its release date! Aaron played for awhile, Xander played while Nathan was at Aikido, and then Nathan got home and got it figured out too!

The very first thing (literally the first thing) that Nathan asked for this morning was to play the game as soon as he gets home from school and his homework is done! We have a plan to go on a bike ride this evening so I promised that he could after that. And he pouted about having a bike ride!

We haven't been a video game family for very long and we are still working out the rules for the kids. I think this game is going to be the one that needs rules and time constraints. : )

In other news.....

Xander was stung by a bee yesterday. The kindergarten called me first thing in the morning and told me that he was stung by a bee and asked f he had an allergy. I told them that we will find out! This is his first bee sting. (They should have already known that, as I did fill out paperwork for him that listed his allergies. The only thing we are sure he is allergic to is a certain antibiotic). Sounds like he put his hand on a wasp and he was climbing a ladder on the playground. That playground has been tough on him so far!

Xander has scored 3 out of 5 goals on his soccer team this season! He is so aggressive and gets right in there. There is one boy who wants it more than he does and is learning not to shove the kids out of the way to get the ball. He is causing injuries... Xander got pushed and landed right on his sore rib on Saturday. I could tell that it hurt him, but after a quick cuddle he was off again.

Bike Ride and Open House

The boys and I rode our bikes to Nathan's school's open house tonight. It was so much fun for all of us! The kids figured out how to go up and down the curbs without crashing and never got to tired to ride. I'll have to press the odometer in the car tomorrow morning to figure out how far we rode.

We got to the school and Nathan showed us all around his class and school and I got to talk to his teacher (who smells like a cigarette smoker trying to cover it with gum). Then the kids played on the playground for awhile and we rode all the way home again. What a great evening. I know that soon we will be able to tackle an even longer ride!

I spoke with Xander's teacher today as well. Last night, Xander complained that his chest hurt (he said his nipple hurt, so after I got done giggling we figured out it was his rib. Nipple just sounds funny coming from a 5 year old!) He told me he fell of a monkey bar and hit his chest on a bar. I didn't worry too much about it because I couldn't see any bruising or deformity and it was bedtime by the time he got around to telling me about it. This morning he woke up in tears because it was hurting him. It still doesn't look like anything is wrong so I suspect he bruised a rib in that fall. Never the less, I sent a note to his teacher to see what she knew about it and she called me right away this morning. All I could think about was that it could have been a dangerous injury and were the teachers looking out for him. After all his brother broke his collar bone by falling off a monkey bar (day care) during morning recess and no one noticed all day long. And it was visibly deformed, clearly broken, and he had to sit in preschool until I picked him up that night. Xander's teacher told me what she had done for Xander and it is exactly what I would have done so I felt pretty good about that. He is still pretty sore, and I suspect he will milk it for awhile, but he is OK. He rode his bike today and played on the playground at his brothers school!!

I'll try to check in again soon. I am trying to post enough to keep my Aunties happy!!

First Day of School!!

The first day of second grade for Nathan and the first day of Kindergarten for Xander.

Nathan was most excited just to see his friends. He is a little nervous with change so a new teacher was a bit scary. But he did well today. He loved going back to the before and after school center where his friends were waiting for him.

Xander was a little more nervous than Nathan, but more excited at the same time. He got to go to Kindergarten orientation and meet his teacher and find his desk. They had the wrong name on his name tags, which could have thrown him, but the teacher heard us say his name, Xander, before we went in and rushed to have it fixed. He is most excited about the computer lab. He really had a hard time not touching them while he was listening to the teacher talk about them. When we got to the car he pointed out that he "still does not know where the bathroom is". Some things are very important. : )
