Dentist

Today I love my dentist. Well, my endodontist anyway.

If anyone knows me at all, you know that the dentist and I are not friends. I have a great dentist. He is a nice man, a good golfer (I've golfed with him!), a great member of our community, and an all around good person. I don't like to visit him and can't go voluntarily.

There is a very long story to go along with all of this but I'll just say that I have had too much crap happen to me at the dentist office. My slight childhood fear has developed into a full blown phobia.

In November I discovered that I have a broken molar on the bottom and a matching cracked one on the top. My dentist did what he could to make it stop hurting and referred me to an Endodontist for a root canal. It worked for while and my tooth wasn't hurting.... I didn't make the root canal appointment. The referral paper hung on my fridge door, where I looked at it every day and my blood pressure increased. By January my tooth was hurting again. By February it was hurting *all the time* and the one on the top was starting to ache as well.

Aaron finally had to drag me to see the endodontist and I ended up with 2 root canals. The doctor prescribed me awesome medication. I was sort-of awake during the first root canal, but I was sound asleep during the second one. That is the best way to have your teeth worked on!

Today my jaw is sore. My gums are sore from needles. But my teeth feel GREAT! I still have to go get some crowns on these teeth, but I have leftover medicine from the root canals. I think I'll be OK. (but I still can't make the appointment by myself).

March Already?

How is it March already? I just posted to this blog and it was January!! A whole month as come and gone between January and March....

I guess it's a good thing. We are keeping busy.

Pete tested for his yellow belt. And he passed with flying colors. He moved so smoothly and quickly and knew all the moves immediately. It was quite impressive. He got a big round of applause from the class and the parents. One dad even came over and gave him a hug and told him how great he had done. Last night a parent came up to him and thanked him. As a yellow belt he is considered a leader in the class and Sensei pairs him up with white belt kids who might need a little more instruction. He was paired up with the littlest guy in the class (yup, Repete is no longer the littlest). He talked him through all the moves (which involved several steps, kicking, blocking, and a take down). He was gentle with him and taught him what to do. The boys mom was so happy to have Pete be his little mentor. He always makes me so proud.

Repete is still doing Aikido as well. He loves it. His focus is incredible. When Sensei is demonstrating a new move the look of concentration on Repete's face is amazing. He isn't the youngest in the class anymore and he likes that. Sensei took me aside this week and told me how impressed he was with Repete. Repete had taught a new boy how to do front rolls (which, believe it or not, are not simply somersaults). Sensei usually lets the kids watch and try to figure it out on their own for a minute before he helps them with the techniques. This boy was next to Repete and was having trouble and Sensei was assisting another student, so Repete showed him how to do it. Sensei came over, finally, and asked how he learned it. Sensei told me that not only did Repete teach the boy he taught Sensei a new way to teach the roll. He'll be testing for a stripe in no time!

A friend of mine at work handed down a pair of practically brand new roller blades to my boys. They are about 1 size too big for Pete and a LOT too big for Repete. Repete was the most excited to try them out! So we strapped them on as tight as we could get them (they almost reach his knees!), put his helmet and wrist guards on, and he was off! Pete watched him for a minute and decided that he would also like to try them out (he wasn't sure at first). When it was his turn he took a few tumbles, gained more confidence, and skated up and down the street. He whispered to me "Mom, I think I finally found something that I am better at than Repete!". I'm glad he is so confident and I won't burst his bubble....

Pete is a better skier than his brother is. For some reason, on the bunny hill, Pete is able to throw caution out the window. The only time my cautious kid will do it (and he won't leave the bunny hill, even for a bribe). He tucks his poles under his arms, flies down the hill, stops at the bottom without falling and scoots his way over to the magic carpet to ride back up. For HOURS. Repete falls a lot. But he keeps getting back up. He is most proud right now because he learned how to put his own skis back on after he crashes and the skis fly all over the place! He wouldn't even let me help with that part!!!

Hopefully it isn't May before I post again. I have to get pictures posted onto the QuiltTherapy site as well. I'm very far behind on that blog.... Maybe this weekend. Yeah right.
