I entered NaNnoWriMo again this year. Yikes! I'm both nervous and excited about it. If you don't know what it is you can look it up here http://www.nanowrimo.org/. It's basically a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I have signed up the last 2 years and ran out of steam early on. This time I have supporters, writing buddies, and a PLOT! Who knew how important that last part might be?
So, not that any one checks this blog regularly, but I don't plan on posting in November... I don't want to waste any words on the blog, when they can go into my daily word count instead!!

Chili!!
We had out 2nd annual chili cookoff this weekend. It was sooo much fun!!
This started a year ago, when Aaron was talking smack about how great his chili is. He really does make a good pot of chili, but he tends to make it a little spicy. So we organized a chili cook off. We made up judging score sheets and had a prize for the top 3 chili's. Aaron only came in 3rd. His chili was tasty, but it was so spicy that some people couldn't eat it. The funny this was that he had toned it down by adding fewer chili's, but the chili's he did add, must have been extra spicy. It was HOT. My best friend, Teresa, won 2nd place, and my good friend Eric took home the grand prize (bottle of tums? I can't remember what it was).
This year we decided to vote a different way. We had the popular vote and a guest judge. For the popular vote there were 6 empty jars, one for each pot of chili. People voted with cash and coin. The jar with the most money won popular vote. All of that money goes to the food bank. (dropping it all off tonight). We had a guest judge who claims to be a chili aficionado, give out the top two prizes for the "judged" portion as well.
Aaron didn't get to make chili this year. And Teresa ran out of time as well. So with two pots down, I wanted to make sure there was enough pots to make a good contest! I found a recipe that I thought I could handle and I made chili. Me. Krista. If you know me at all you know that is quite amusing. I don't cook. But I worked hard on that chili. I even had to modify the recipe when I was out of a couple of ingredients I thought I had and substituted or added something else that I thought would work.
My chili took both the popular vote and the judged vote! MINE!! And there was no chili to bring home. Aaron even told me it was tasty!! The guest judge compared it to a fine cigar. The bad news is that now I have to compete again next year, which means I'll need to buy another crock pot because you know Aaron is going to want to beat me!
The chili cook off will be the 2nd Saturday of October from now on!! So if you want to make chili, you had better start working on your recipe now!! Cuz I'm going to be practicing.
