Outgrown Again?

At Thanksgiving time my parents took Pete and Repete to my sisters house for Thanksgiving.  My sister lives about 8 hours from where my parents and my own family live.  Cap'n and I couldn't make it, but there was no reason the boys couldn't go (other than the car was packed full of gifts, luggage, and people already).

Mom took all her grandkids to get a family photo done.  She bought them all new jeans and red shirts.  When she called and asked for the sizes that she should buy I told her to get Pete a size 12, because he has 6 pair of size 10 with no holes in the knees already and will fit a 12 soon.  And to get Repete a size 7 (because I thought that was his size and he needed new jeans).  Pete's size 12's were HUGE on him and so she bought him a size 10 as well so he'd have pants that fit for the photos.  Repete had the same problem and she bought him another pair as well, a size 6.  I was so surprised that they were that giant on them, but folded the new jeans up and put them in the bin that I keep of clothes that are too big.  Most of the clothes in that bin are items that Pete outgrew and are waiting for Repete to grow into.

Last night I had to wash all of the clothes that the boys were wearing on HOT.  (Another story that I may write about later).  I'm sure those jeans were shrunk a bit, but they haven't had a chance to try them on yet.  Pete tried on 3 different pair of size 10 jeans from his drawer.  Jeans that he wore this weekend.  And he could not button them up.  And if he could have he couldn't bend over, the thighs were so tight!  He tried on the 12's that he "swam" in a few months ago and they are just perfect.  PERFECT!!  How can a kid grow like that OVERNIGHT???  I am not exaggerating... jeans he wore this weekend are too small this morning.  Repete wore the new jeans as well today, though his 6's still fit he wanted to wear new clothes like his brother.  And they worked out just fine.

I may have to stop feeding these kids.

Family Tree

Not long after I was married I became interested in genealogy.  I wish I was interested before that when I could have asked my Grandmother some questions before she couldn't remember anymore.  But I was young and dumb and missed that opportunity.  My grandfather (her husband) can't understand why I'm interested in that side of the family anyway.  To him, his side is more interesting and he has more information, which makes it better in his eyes.  :)  I get it.  I'm more interested in my side of the family than I am my husbands, but his is still interesting and important.

My mothers side of my family has a lot of information already written and there was very little for me to do back then, other than enter data that someone else already compiled into a Family Tree Maker program on the computer.  Now that I'm older (and wiser, hahahaha), I'd like to collect more photos and stories of those people.  And now I know that the time for that stuff is shorter as I get older, so does everyone else.  Fortunately, I know several of my Aunts, their aunts, and my mother all have many pictures from that side and still know who the people in the photos are!!  I really need to start scanning those.

My fathers side is a little more difficult.  His father has quite a bit of information and a few photo's from his own side of the family but his mother is gone now and so are her stories.  It is unfortunate that I didn't get interested in family history when I was in high school, because that was when Grandma could have helped me a bit.  Her parents immigrated from Yugoslavia and that is as far back as anyone has traced.  I don't even know how they arrived in the USA (but I do have an idea of when).

This week I was forwarded an email from my Dad's cousin.  It has Grandma's family history on it and a request to fill in any blanks.  While it gives me some of the history and the branches down from my Great-grandparents, I'd still like to know more.  Hopefully I can eek out some time to do some research and add to the top of that family tree!   I did add my boys and my husband to the document and returned the email.  So I'm doing what I can.

Any family that reads my blog is welcome to forward any family photos to me.  I'd love to have all historical photos scanned and labeled so I can add to the family tree that I have started.  Don't want to loose the names and places to time.....

Am I the last one to know about this stuff?

Sometimes I wonder if I'm totally out of the loop.  I thought I was a step ahead when my cousin got me blogging. (A step behind her of coarse).  At Christmas time everyone in the office was very excited about a groupon.  These are women who I respect and are my mothers age, talking about a groupon, and they were sharing that with everyone! I was flabbergasted for awhile.  Then I figured out it was a special coupon for a store I don't shop at, and not an over 18 party.

Then, I got a free Groupon coupon from the Free Stuff website I check out regularly.  It was $5 of free money at Groupon.  So I had to check it out.

It turns out it isn't a shop at all.  It's so much more than that!  Does everyone know about Groupon?  Am I the last to figure this out?  Groupon is a website where you can buy a gift certificate for local businesses at a discount.  For instance, I bought a $20 certificate at Ace Hardware for $10 (and I used my $5 coupon on that so I only paid $5!!).  There is a different featured business each day.  I bought another certificate today.  This one for a restaurant that I've been wanting to try. The deal was $15 for a $30 Groupon.  Pretty great!

I understand that people get to rate the businesses that offer the Groupon's and the businesses get to rate the clients that used the certificates.  I'm excited to use these.

Anyway, if you are interested in starting a Groupon account of your own, let me know.  I get credit ($$) for people who sign up.  I'll send the link that gets me the credit.  Then you can do the same when you get your friends (who are also behind the block) signed up.  FYI - You get Groupon's that are local *to you*.  So my friends who aren't near me still get relevant businesses.

Get your Groupon!  (sorry, still sounds like a party for adults only.)
