Bee stings

Last summer we drove to my brother-in-laws family home in Orofino.  Anna and Dennis met us there. Kaylynn, Aspynn, and Danner had spent the week at Nana and Bonka's house and we all drove down to spend the day and say goodbye to the cousins.  My boys LOVE their cousins and Aunt and Uncle. Uncle Dennis is pure fun to them.  And to be able to go his parents house was heaven.  They got to swim, fish, climb, jump, and ride a dirt bike. And they got to do it all with some of the people they love the most.

Xander rode the dirt bike around and around and around in circles.  I didn't get a picture of that.  Kids on motorbikes and/or 4-wheelers terrify me.
After that Uncle Dennis, the cousins, Nathan, and Xander trekked to the river to fish.  Z was the last in line.  Five people passed a wasp next without noticing it and without the wasps noticing them. Z was not so lucky.  He was stung on his face, neck, and hand.  He stopped to fish and was the only one to catch anything if I remember right.  They all came back and he was stung once more.  When he came in the house telling me he'd been stung so many times I was mapping out the way to the nearest ER in my head.  We got some Benadryl in him and some sting ease on the stings and he ran off to play with his cousins some more.  Stings on the face and neck are particularly worry some because they can compromise the airway.  Thank goodness he showed little sign of allergy.... Till the next day.

He recovered and thankfully there was no emergency trip to the hospital.

Last week, while I was waiting for Zs football practice to be over Nathan ran up to me and calmly stated he'd been stung by a bee.  He was holding his finger to show me. The stinger is still in his finger pumping its poison.  I scrape it away with my fingernail (who has time to search for a credit card to do the job?!). He is as calm as can be. I guess he's growing up.  Because I was seriously concerned.  Those hurt and he isn't acting like a *child* here!  He sat with me while we waited. Once practice was over and we headed home he said he felt fine, watched tv for a bit, took his shower and went to bed. There was no swelling and he said it really didnt hurt much anymore.
In the morning when he woke he had one swollen knuckle. But he refused Benadryl at that time, because he is like me and half a dose will knock him out.  He'd rather be alert at school.  When he got home he called me and asked for one. By then his finger looked like a sausage!  He took a Benadryl and a nap in the car at his brothers practice.  Today is day 4 and it's finally starting to go down.  But now it's itchy and he can't stop from scratching.
(That's a freckle on his fingertip by the way.  I can't tell you how often I see and think he's got dirt on his hand.  Oh, and, when did my hands start to look so wrinkled and old?!)

These are both relatively minor reactions, all in all.  I'm so glad.  Neither of these are first stings for these boys. And as active and adventuresome as they are I don't imagine they will be the last either.

I don't blog enough apparently!

I've been asked to blog more.  And it's actually a resolution I set at the new year.  So I guess I needed a shove.  I have only got a few minutes at the moment.  But I cruised through the photos on my phone and have a few things to post.  So be ready to see photos about The Color Run, stand up paddle board, football, back to school, new braces, an old bathroom, and a kid who insists on being injured.
Probably.
